Community Service Block Grant
The Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) provides administrative and programmatic services to income-eligible individuals and families through direct services, and subcontracted services with Lincoln County Opportunity Company, Inc. and Wayne County Community Services Organization, Inc.
CSBG provides the following services in addition to providing an administrative framework to support other programs offered by Southwestern. It is a unique and comprehensive approach to the multiple barriers faced daily by low-income families and seeks self-sufficiency for all as its overarching goal:
• Optical Program: Assists individuals in need for glasses with payment for eye exam and glasses. Lincoln County only.
• Employment supports: job search, resume creation, interviewing skills
• GED self-study: Milton location only
• Utility Assistance: Provides cash assistance for overdue heating bills for income eligible individuals who have received notice of service termination. All counties.
• Low-Income Energy Assistance Program: Provides assistance to individuals in filling out LIEAP applications. All counties.
• VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. Free tax preparation for income-eligible individuals and families.
• Food Pantry: Emergency assistance given to income eligible individuals and families in need of food. Wayne County only.
• Food/meals: Senior congregate meal program. Lincoln County location only.
• Referrals and application assistance to other programs offered by SCAC or other agencies.
